For this project, I was tasked with designing a duplex for a multi-generational family that focused on universal design and aging-in-place. My clients were a retired couple with multiple disabilities and health conditions and their adult son, his spouse, and their child. The duplex ranges in square footage with a total of 1086 sq ft. on the left side and 1095 sq ft. on the right side. Each client’s needs were met by providing two distinctive designs for each duplex with a classic mid-century modern style on the left side and an urban modern design with a minimalistic feel for the right side. In both homes, there will be smart features like keyless entries and pop-up outlets for easy accessibility.
